I love Foxes! I've only seen three in the wild and they were a mother and two pups.

Re: foxes
I had a fox lay under a tree in my yard last summer. It twas really hot that day and he/she just walked right out in the open and layed underneath a big tree in the shade.
Also right after the females have there kits, you can walk out in the woods in the evenings and hear the mom talking to the kits. She is out hunting and they are in their den.

Foxes in the Neighborhood
Last year two foxes appeared in the neighborhood and had pups. They liked to walk through the yard moving their pups to different places. They dissappeared around fall last year but now they're back! We've called animal control but they will not move the foxes to the state park or something. What should we do??
P.S. The foxes are not scared around people and there are alot of young children around here.

Re: Foxes in the Neighborhood
Why is your local animal control unwilling to move the foxes to a state park (or some place similar)? If there are small children near, they really should move the foxes away, since there is the risk of getting infected by rabies and other diseases.
Foxes are very adaptable to a wide range of habitats and can thrive close to humans, but they prefer wild settings. . . so this fox couple may have returned again to breed at the same place.

I think that is quite cool, having foxes next to your house, but in all senses, not "healthy" for them. Same as Embry, I'm confused about the animal control thing. Their job is moving wild animals, specially if you live in a poblated area. May I suggest calling them again, try as much times as you can and wait for a reply.

Re: Foxes in the Neighborhood
Foxes aren't a threat to a human society apart from the risk of getting a rabies infection, and usually foxes are nocturnal, moving around only by night, but I am really confused why the animal control doesn't move the foxes away, since obviously foxes do not belong in to an urban environment by any means. I agree with Sintact, you should just keep calling and calling, or then you can try the police.

Re: Foxes in the Neighborhood
Well, it would not be uncommon to see them in a very-low density suburb (such as the one I live in). We've got a good number of foxes here, their numbers seem to have been increasing. People here like them though, since they eat all the pesty little rodent type creatures that destroy our yards. As far as I know, the only complaints we get here are on the rabbits/squirrels and the coyotes, nobody seems to mind the foxes.Embry wrote:Foxes aren't a threat to a human society apart from the risk of getting a rabies infection, and usually foxes are nocturnal, moving around only by night, but I am really confused why the animal control doesn't move the foxes away, since obviously foxes do not belong in to an urban environment by any means.
