What Can You Hear In Nature?

Post by Kivia » Thu May 17, 2012 10:18 pm

It's always really cool to see wildlife, but sometimes the little critters can be quite elusive. That doesn't mean we still can't hear them though! So this topic is to discuss what you may not have necessarily seen recently, but what you've heard. For example, have you heard some birds? Do you know what kind of birds they were? You can also come here to ask for help in identifying an animal call~

I'll start off- right now I have my windows open, and I can hear all sorts of things outside, in particular bull frogs. They are just croaking to their heart's content out there in the pond by my house.
I can also here crickets, and I'm also listening for owls. Haven't heard any tonight though.
EDIT: Never mind, I hear a Barred Owl now! ='D As you can see, I'm always thrilled to hear owls.

Haha Kivia, that must have been very exciting for you. ;D
Well, mostly earlier today I heard bird calls. Just chirping and going about their business. I believe they're a type of songbird, but I'm not wholly certain. I don't know how to describe the noise, either. :x Also I can detect some crickets, nothing exceptionally exciting. :P Their presence is always noticeable at night, at least around here, what with their seemingly endless calls.

Since it just finished raining, all of the American tree frogs are croaking out their territory, one's right on my window so it's quite loud, but I don't mind. :)

All I can hear right now is the rain... usually I hear baby birds chirping at night, but not tonight. Just rain.

Earlier today I was outside, I could hear several different birds and dogs barking, sense every person in my neighborhood as a dog, I could hear a person across from us working on redoing there house and thats about it, nothing interesting. Now, at night its mostly silent except a few crickets outside.

I can hear owls hooting and crickets chirping almost every night where I live. And, when the weather gets warm, I can hear whole flocks of geese honking! Sometimes I can even make out wild turkey noises! ^^

Though I rarely do, I love taking a walk in the morning when the buzz of every day life hasn't started yet. The sound of slight rain can be so relaxing and if that isn't there then you can always just enjoy the chirping of birds (or the hooting of pigeons, even, haha!) I just took a walk with the neighbour's dog over here and mainly heard other dogs bark at us I suppose. I do enjoy the sound of the dog's steps crackling up the leaves and such.

I often hear plenty of birds when I'm outside, but (especially in the evenings) I start to hear what I recently found out were eurasian collared doves. They are very pretty sounding birds, and actually came into our region quite recently.

I can't hear much since I'm inside, but I can hear a Mourning Dove from a distance. We have plenty of those around here!

I can hear the wind rattling the leaves of the trees, and the grass dancing and waving in the breeze. I can also hear the quiet murmur of frogs by the pond. =)
