Gov. Otter signes bill for an emergency due to wolves!

Post by flatt » Tue Apr 19, 2011 8:48 pm

Gov. Butch Otter signed a bill declaring a disaster emergency due to the number of wolves in the state.

"The uncontrolled proliferation of imported wolves on private land has produced a clear and present danger to humans, their pets and livestock, and has altered and hindered historical uses of private and public land, dramatically inhibiting previously safe activities such as walking, picnicking, biking, berry picking, hunting and fishing," the bill says. "...it is the intent of the legislature to regulate the presence of Canadian gray wolves in Idaho in order to safeguard the public, wildlife, economy and private property against additional devastation."

The measure would let Otter enlist local law enforcement agents to reduce Idaho's wolf population.

Meanwhile, an attachment to the budget bill signed into law by President Barack Obama strips endangered species protections from wolves in five Western states including Idaho, which has already started planning anther wolf-hunting season. Federal wildlife officials said that within 60 days they will take more than 1,300 gray wolves in the Northern Rockies off the endangered species list.

I'm glad they are now taking action in controlling wolf population, otherwise there could be alot more fatal attacks on pets and even humans. But, this is usually because we sometimes accidently intrude on wolf territory, and if they see us for example walking the dog, the dog would be classed as a predator in their territory, and would be attacked, but otherwise the human would probably be safe. There should be notification on where wolf territories are, such as signs, and they should be marked on maps too.

Excactly. Someone intruding in a wolves territory is like me going right up close to you and saying what a cute little child and tugging your cheek. The fact is it's an invasion of space, and should be dealt with in a non-violent manner. But if wolves come into towns, people should go in doors, or, if the wolves are trying to attack people, then the people have a right to exterminate the wolves for the safety of civilians. This is just my opinion though, I'm not going against anyone elses.

Yeah if we keep venturing into there territory then there are going to be more encounters the government should keep them on the endangered spieces list

And another thing I dont like is that a "Wild Life Specialist" says to deduce the population will make the state safer. :(

They should take a small handful of wolves if the population is too large, and reintroduce them somewhere which has less wolves. It makes more sense than killing them, don't you think?

It greatly saddens me that people are so quick to label another species for execution, and then justify it by claiming that that species is dangerous or innately hostile.
Staring into my eyes, they can't comprehend what it is that they see, is it a being, or is it just an illusion, they wonder if they even really exist, or if they are just figments of my dream...

Yeah it makes me mad to think about it but I have done all I can to help the wolves at this point I have sent a letter to the govenor. But thats not the only one who is in on it is also obama and some senators too so I cant do anything to convince them I have even sent a letter to the news chanel telling them to post what I say but that didnt work either. I have never been able to see a wolf in the wild and I probly never will if they dont leave the population how it is wolves live for many years with out mans interfearance and they survived and the elk herds were controled.
