Wolf pack may be trotting around Flaming Gorge

Posted: 10:44 PM- Wolves may finally be making a permanent home in the Beehive State for the first time since the Great Depression era.
While sightings of individual wolves in Utah have been steady for years, particularly since the reintroduction of the animals at Yellowstone National Park, the endangered animals generally haven't stayed in state. Instead, they've crossed into Utah and then back into Wyoming, Montana or Idaho, where larger wolf populations reside.
But a recent report of five wolves spotted near the Dutch John Airport in Daggett County have wildlife experts wondering if a wolf pack is establishing territory in Utah, said Kevin Bunnell, mammals program director for the Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR).

It is exciting to see that they are expanding their range. It is pretty common for a single wolf to be seen in a new area, but the population will never be established in an area until there is a pack present. It has lately been in the news that wolves have been sighted in Colorado, but only one wolf.

yay! hopefully these wolves will breed puppies and that other packs can enter the state. I don`t live there, but I`m hopeing that theres enough "wildlife highways" for wild animals to travel across, so as not to create genetic islands.

Colorado? Wow, that wolf must have had a long journey. (Assuming that it was actually a wolf and not a wolf-hybrid.) I hope that the wolves stay out of Kansas...we have nothing but farms and livestock in the eastern half of the state, and we all know how some farmers feel about livestock predation. Yeah, there's lots and lots of deer for them. But if you've ever driven across Kansas, you'd know that cows are the ONLY animal you see. :| I just don't think it would work.

I don't think they'll reach Kansas any time soon, though.

Yay! Wolves in Utah! I've heard some stuff on the news about maybe introducing wolves into Utah. I've known of a few wolves wandering into Utah from Yellowstone. But I believe that were killed in Coyote traps. I hope these wolves stay! I've always wanted to have wolves here in Utah!
