Re: Favorite animal you've seen at a zoo.

I have seen some awesome tigers at the zoo. At the Folsom Zoo the tiger got excited when it saw its keeper and started panting and pacing by the glass. It's always exciting to see the cats move! At the San Diego Wild Animal Park I saw the tail of the Siberian Tiger through some leaves in the distanc...

Re: Ethiopian wolves discussion.

I can't speak for the IWC, but this discussion ended up bringing up more questions for me than answers. I thought a lot about it and this is what I've come up with: Ecological, morphological, and behavioral (and not genetic) constraints define the different species in the Canis genus. Coyotes and wo...

Re: Ethiopian wolves discussion.

La Striata, you are way too bossy to argue with, as I've seen from your previous posts in this thread. I just wanted to clear up that your suggesting Ethiopian wolves are not "wolves" is inaccurate from a genetic standpoint. Ethiopian wolves ARE wolves. To answer the question you repeatedly pose of ...

Re: Ethiopian wolves discussion.

Unless you're willing to classify coyotes and golden jackals as wolves, then Ethiopian wolves are not wolves . Look at this graph on canid genetics: http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v438/n7069/images/nature04338-f10.2.jpg As you can see, the coyote and golden jackal are just behind the wolf (me...

Re: Have you ever seen a WILD Coyote?

I live in the foothills near the city, and I see coyotes all the time! I think it's crazy how many coyotes live around here. Sometimes I worry that developers will build over the land where the coyotes live (because there is not much of it) :(

Re: What would u do if you see a wolf pup

I have actually known a few people who had wolves or wolf dogs as pets (and a few fakers who thought their dog was part wolf, but even I in my limited knowledge could tell it wasn't.) My mom when she was a little girl had a half malamute half wolf dog. She told me stories about how she would climb u...

Re: What would u do if you see a wolf pup

I would keep it as a pet! But it probably wouldn't be a very good pet...more like a partner! I would have to change my whole life to live with this wolf. I would have to move somewhere with a big enclosure for the wolf to play in. I would have to work really hard to train the wolf to live with peopl...

Re: Would you live with wolves if you had a chance to?

There was a time when I would say, "Yes! Throw me in with the wolves! Even if they are wild and eat me I won't care, I will be with the wolves forever..." But now that I am a little older, I have to say, no. *shame* People are people and wolves are wolves. Even if you could live like a wolf t...
