Interesting, it's probably just a regular canine though. Diseases can affect the way animals look and act. This is probably the most logical answer to these mysterious sightings and what-not.

It IS upsetting they are killing these beautiful creatures, but if they are protecting livestock... well, I suppose it's a slightly different story. However, there are a few other methods of getting rid of them that don't include slaughtering the poor animals.
