Re: Good computers for WolfQuest

Do you have a budget or spending limit in mind swimmerLn4? That might help us give you some more specific suggestions! And were you set on a laptop or desktop?

Re: New things found in AE's files (Spoilers)

The whip crack is kind of neat. I don't recall 2.5's cattle ranch having that sound effect--just panicked moos, dog barks, and then a gunshot if you didn't exit the pasture in time.

Re: Wolfdogs in Wolf Packs

Thanks for the corrections GoldenBeauty, I was not aware of that issue in Germany! Although I still disagree to an extent about the Yellowstone wolf on the other post (at least until more concrete evidence is presented that it is a product of a recent cross), I appreciate the perspective here in th...

Re: Wolfdogs in Wolf Packs

Hey AleuAleta, I'm going to answer this from a theoretical standpoint and only about modern wolfdogs: as in domestic dogs crossing with modern-day gray wolves, rather than the common ancestor(s) of today's dogs and wolves. In general, no matter the locale or population/subspecies involved, wolfdogs...

Re: Update on Dire wolf taxonomy

Long time no read, La Striata. Thanks for sharing. My interest in this comes from the molecular side, as I work with environmental DNA (eDNA) routinely. Some of its challenges are shared with those of ancient DNA. Although I have never encountered an inhibitor as challenging as tar! I was intereste...

Re: Why is KK lethal for wolves?

Yeah. The K locus has the DNA/genetic code for creating the Beta-defensin 103 protein. This defensin protein has a "side role" in influencing pigmentation because it binds to another protein--a melanocortin receptor--that is found in melanocyte cells. Melanocytes are special cells in mammalian skin...

Re: Why is KK lethal for wolves?

How come the KK gene in wolves produces sick pups or is even lethal? Hey GoldenBeauty, In real-life grey wolves, the KK genotype does not automatically produce sick pups or cause lethality in utero (in the womb). At least, I still cannot find direct evidence or statements for either of those things...

Re: Pokémon

That sounds equally frustrating! I was bored one evening and found a YouTube series by False Swipe Gaming about "How good was [insert Pokemon here] ACTUALLY?". Covered popular pokemon and how their stats/moves/sprites changed over the games, with respect to competitive play. Poor Typhlosion, taking...

Re: Pokémon

A couple nights ago, I decided to do a new MD campaign (Red Rescue Team). But my DS Lite shut off twice spontaneously. I think either the game cartridge itself was coming loose in the bottom slot, or my hand was jiggling the power switch. Either way, I gave up!

Re: Name the Lost River Packs! (and updates)

It would take some research/digging from the incomplete forum archives, but finding out the names of the most popular forum-based packs in Pack Central could be a fun callback for some game players. This is a really good idea! It fits with the theme of having team references throughout Lost River. ...

Arabian wolf pursues an Ibex, cliff side!

This GIF/mp4 clip shows the impressive athleticism of an Arabian wolf as it pursues its equally impressive ungulate prey, possibly a Nubian Ibex, across a sheet cliff face! I personally did not know wolves were capable of hunting successfully on such steep cliff faces, similar to how snow leopards ...

How animation studios approach gendered animals in one picture

Too funny! I was instantly reminded of Alpha and Omega, and Balto. What movies can you think of that did this, with wolves or another animal? Can you think of any films where the animals' appearances were not dramatically modified to match their gender? https://preview.redd.it/wkvar0s6gyt41.jpg?wid...
